Slam Dunk Your Way Into Summer At Summer Slam 2024, Presented By Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, June 28 – July 1, 2024

June 20, 2024, Treaty No.1 Territory, Winnipeg, MB – Downtown Winnipeg BIZ and Peg City Basketball Association Inc. are thrilled to host Summer Slam 2024, presented by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, an annual basketball festival that brings together sports fans, cultural groups and community members of all ages in celebration of basketball and Canadian heritage.  

Taking place, June 28- July 1 at The Forks, Summer Slam 2024, presented by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, is free for the public to attend and offers a variety of family-friendly activities for both sports enthusiasts and beginners.  

“We believe this will be one of the most exciting community events of the season, bringing vibrancy and thousands of Manitobans and visitors to our downtown neighbourhood at The Forks in celebration of our vibrant cultures, sportsmanship and community spirit,” said Kate Fenske, CEO of Downtown Winnipeg BIZ.  

“This annual festival helps to strengthen our community ties and provides an exciting platform for local talent to shine,” said Sean Close, Executive Director of Peg City Basketball Association Inc. “We are proud to work with our partners to bring Summer Slam to The Forks this year, one of the most iconic locations in the heart of our city.” 

Event features: 

  • Summer Slam Challenge Media Day: Witness local Basketball Manitoba alumni & all-stars clash head-to-head on the court in front of the iconic CN Stage at the Forks. 
  • Opening Ceremonies Pow Wow: Experience a vibrant cultural celebration that marks the grand kickoff of the event.  
  • 3 x 3 Basketball Tournament: Enjoy fast-paced, competitive games featuring male and female teams across various age divisions.   
  • Hoops at The Forks Market: Join in a fun-filled shoot around for families, where everyone can join in and test their basketball skills.   
  • Wheelchair Basketball Demonstration: Discover the excitement of adaptive sports with a dynamic demonstration. Families can test drive a wheelchair on the court.  
  • Shoot-out Competition: Watch a thrilling shooting competition showcasing precision and skill.   
  • Slam Dunk Contest: Marvel at gravity-defying dunks from some of Winnipeg’s most talented players.   
  • Live DJ: Groove to the beats and enjoy non-stop music and entertainment throughout the festival.  

Fifty percent of the registration revenue will be allocated to the Interlake Reserves Tribal Council (IRTC) to launch a new club basketball initiative for Indigenous youth.
