Join us for the screening of We Are Made from the LandWe Are Made from the Land tells the story of four First Nations working to create the Seal River Watershed Indigenous Protected Area in northern Manitoba to care for caribou, heal from forced relocation, strengthen cultures, and sustain the land for all people.

Dene and Cree peoples have had a relationship with the Seal River Watershed since time immemorial. Located in northern Manitoba, the watershed spans 50,000 square kilometres of healthy lands and clean waters.

Now the Sayisi Dene First Nation, Northlands Dene Nation, Barren Lands First Nation, and O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation have come together to permanently protect the watershed as an Indigenous Protected Area. Once finalized, it will be the largest land-based protected area in Canada.

We Are Made from the Land tells the story of their work to care for the watershed, heal from the trauma of forced relocation and residential school, and ensure these lands will sustain communities and cultures far into the future.

Attend the world premiere of this short film (38 min) and be inspired by the Indigenous-led initiative to establish the largest land-based protected area in Canada. The event will feature Indigenous performances, presentations from the artistic team, and members of the Seal River Watershed Alliance. Refreshments provided.
