October 24, 2023, Treaty No. 1 territory, Winnipeg, MB – Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, Exchange District BIZ, West End BIZ and Economic Development Winnipeg are calling on Winnipeggers to take part in a survey to share their perspectives on downtown. This survey will play a pivotal role in making decisions for ongoing improvements.

“Downtown is all about people and to build a downtown that truly serves our community, we need to understand what aspects of this neighbourhood matter most to Winnipeggers,” says Kate Fenske, CEO of Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “It could be green spaces, better options for getting around, enhanced amenities, or something entirely different. Our goal is to understand these priorities for the coming years.”

The survey asks Winnipeggers about various aspects of downtown including transportation, accessibility, parks and outdoor spaces, attractions, amenities, businesses, residential options, safety, mental health and addictions support, and the overall appeal of downtown.

The Downtown Recovery Strategy report, released in September, highlighted the successes of recent downtown improvement projects while identifying areas that still require attention. The insights gathered from this survey will help inform the focus areas for future downtown improvements and investment.

David Pensato, Executive Director of Exchange District BIZ, emphasizes the importance of building upon recent achievements. “Continuing the positive momentum we’ve generated over the past few years is paramount. As partners committed to the greater good of downtown, we need to gain a deeper understanding of how Winnipeggers perceive our neighborhood to make informed decisions about our next steps.”

The survey is accessible at downtownrecovery.ca and will be open until November 3. To encourage participation, respondents have the chance to win one of five $100 gift cards to a downtown business of their choice.
