Downtown Biz Kicks Off Its Summer Event Season

June 1, 2023, Treaty No.1 territory, Winnipeg, MB – Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is kicking off the summer season with its three signature events! Downtown Tours, Downtown Sounds Concert Series, and the outdoor season of the Downtown Winnipeg Farmers’ Market will add to downtown’s vibrancy this summer.

“We’re thrilled to be relaunching our well-loved tours and signature events,” says Pam Hardman, Director of Marketing, Engagement and Communications for Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “Events like these not only increase vibrancy to our neighbourhood, but they also create an opportunity to drive economic activity downtown.”

The latest data collected by Downtown Winnipeg BIZ shows that weekly average visitation for May is up by 29% from last year. With the arrival of summer and major downtown events like Whiteout parties, Sea Bears games, Pride and many more, the Downtown BIZ hopes to build on the momentum with its own summer events.

“While we know that our downtown is still facing challenges and is still recovering, summer provides an opportunity to showcase to Winnipeggers the unique experiences here you can’t find anywhere else,” says Hardman. “Whether it’s trying a new beer or grabbing lunch to-go and catching a performance by a local artist, there’s something special about experiences in the heart of our city.”

Downtown Winnipeg Farmers’ Market:

Starting Thursday, June 15, the Downtown Farmers’ Market opens outdoors at Manitoba Hydro Plaza. Visitors can expect to find local produce, meats, baked goods and artisanal products. For July and August, a second location will be added at True North Square that will feature a unique “shop and sip” experience featuring DJ Mama Cutsworth and the outdoor Rose Bar. The market, now in its 10th year of operation in downtown Winnipeg, will be open every Thursday from June to September.

Downtown Tours:

Downtown Winnipeg BIZ has a brand-new set of tours which includes the Craft Beer tour, Chinatown & Dim Sum tour and Bike Jam Brunch. Led by local experts, each tour offers a guided experience of downtown and the unique businesses here. Tickets for the tours go on sale on the first of every month from June to September.
