FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES DOWNTOWN

102 REASONS TO COME DOWNTOWN ON JUNE 7 AT 12PM

Downtown Winnipeg – 102 giant flower baskets have now been installed along Portage Avenue, in addition to thousands of flowers in baskets and planters on Main Street, Graham Street, Broadway, and other areas in the heart of our city. To celebrate this exciting installation, 102 assorted flowers courtesy of the Downtown BIZ and Fresh Cut Downtown will be given to people passing by La Bamba Café & Lounge (285 Portage Avenue) on June 7th at noon. A sample dessert prepared by La Bamba Café & Lounge will also be handed out – first come, first served.

The Downtown BIZ recognizes the importance of creating unique spaces in our downtown that engages office workers, students and tourists; and image and cleanliness remains a top priority in doing so. The flower baskets aim to enhance the streetscape and breathe new life and interest in our city centre, providing a warm welcome for those visiting our downtown.

“These flower baskets help to make our downtown a vibrant and exciting place to be and reflect its dynamism and inviting quality. We want people to feel welcome here at the heart of our city!” said Stefano Grande, Downtown BIZ Executive Director.

The La Bamba Café & Lounge patio is downtown’s newest patio and is ready to host visitors day and evening – in a spacious and sunny spot on Portage Ave. Thank you to CentreVenture and the City of Winnipeg for sponsoring the infrastructure for this patio, as part of the Downtown BIZ’s pilot patio program that encourages downtown businesses to try out a patio the first year, obtaining a city permit but borrowing the bistro sets and fencing in the first year. Call the Downtown BIZ 958-4621 if you are interested in a patio for your downtown restaurant.

The Downtown BIZ thanks Shelmerdine Garden Centre for these unique flower baskets, which showcase a colourful array of plants, from red to black to silver to lime green.
