Role of Parking as a catalyst for Downtown Development
PARKING GURU TO TALK ABOUT HOW PARKING CAN HELP CREATE A VIBRANT DOWNTOWN ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 15 AT NOON
WINNIPEG, MB—An internationally-recognized parking consultant will share some words of wisdom about the role parking can play in creating a vibrant downtown at a free public information session on July 15, noon to 1:30pm at Globe Cinema, 3rd level, Portage Place.
Dennis Burns with the Studies and Operation Consulting Group, will be meeting with city and downtown representatives on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
Topics of the presentation will include:
· Role of parking – public and private – in a major city
· How parking affects city growth, and how city growth affects parking
· Parking supply and demand – how much is enough?
· The role of municipal parking or a parking authority in a major city
· The importance of setting proper meter rates for on and off street parking to drive retail
Dennis Burns has 25 years of parking operations, management and consulting experience, and regularly speaks on parking system technological advancements and related management applications. His expertise is in parking master planning and management consulting. He has published extensively in several professional journals and books including the International Downtown Association’s publication “Making Business Districts Work.” Mr. Burns serves on the boards of the International Parking Institute and the International Downtown Association, and is a member of the Parking Consultant’s Council.
