PREMIER HOPEFULS GO ON RECORD ABOUT DOWNTOWN: FORUM TO BE HELD ON MARCH 21 FROM 5-7 PM

Downtown Winnipeg —On March 21 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, candidates James Beddome (Green Party), Rana Bokhari (Liberal Party), Greg Selinger (NDP) and Heather Stefanson (PC) will discuss their platforms on key downtown issues:

  • Planning cool downtown districts (SHED, Main St., and Parcel 4)
  • Prioritizing downtown: politically and for businesses
  • Sustaining Tax Increment Financing (TIF) for downtown renewal — especially for housing options to increase the number of downtown residents
  • Fixing up downtown infrastructure
  • Moving people quicker with rapid transit
  • Supporting strategies for the homeless like supportive housing
  • Building up, not out: downtowns generate more tax dollars and create a more sustainable city

Metro’s Shannon VanRaes will moderate the discussion, and everyone is welcome to attend. Participants will get a chance to ask questions and/or tweet their questions online to @metrowinnipeg or @downtownwpgbiz.

“Manitobans value good downtown policy as it relates to downtown development, transportation, smart growth, heritage preservation, fiscal responsibility, cultural awareness, safety, affordable housing, and homelessness,” says Stefano Grande, Downtown BIZ Executive Director. “This is an opportunity for our members and downtown stakeholders to hear from candidates and their platforms as they relate to these important issues.”

Presented by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. Thanks to our generous sponsors and partners: Metro News and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Pool sound will be available for media.
