POP-UP EVENT SERIES TO APPEAR AT PORTAGE AND MAIN THIS SUMMER: STARTS FRIDAY, JUNE 24 11AM-1PM

Downtown Winnipeg –Have you ever imagined the possibilities for Portage and Main? This summer, we’re going to show you! Starting this Friday, and on the last Friday of the month from June to September, the four corners of Portage and Main will be host to the Imagine Portage and Main Pop-up Series and will come alive with events, entertainment, and more for pedestrians to take part in.

The Imagine Portage and Main Pop-up Series invites those who work, live, and play downtown and all the Winnipeggers who pass through the intersection to reclaim the Portage and Main sidewalks. Winnipeggers will have the opportunity to catch a sneak peak of Folklorama Talent performers, taste local treats at a Farmers’ Market, sip and savour local brews in beer gardens, and join in to form the biggest dance party on all four corners.

“Portage and Main has always been much more than just an intersection,” said Mayor Brian Bowman.  “Over the years, it’s where Winnipeg has intersected with life. This intersection can be more, and it can do more for our City.  It is in the heart of our downtown and together we want to animate the four corners of this iconic intersection with lively entertainment and memorable events for people to enjoy. As we keep the conversation going on opening up this intersection to pedestrians, we also want to cultivate imaginations and open Winnipegger’s minds to what can be possible at Portage and Main—a fun and safe destination spot for our entire community including those living and working downtown.”

The Imagine Portage and Main Pop-up Series is a collaborative initiative between the City of Winnipeg, the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, and the Exchange District BIZ.
