FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PEDAL – ENJOY – REPEAT
Sometimes you need to rent a bike and there just isn’t one available. That used to be the case in downtown Winnipeg, but not anymore. Pedal in the Peg is the active transit answer to the question, “how do we get around if we don’t want to walk or drive?”
The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ launched the program, with support of the City of Winnipeg, after studying bike-share programs around the world. We wanted to raise the bar on active transit in our city. “We were thinking of visitors staying in downtown Winnipeg, but this really is a program for everyone to enjoy,” said Downtown Winnipeg BIZ CEO, Stefano Grande.
The program wouldn’t be possible without Mayor Brian Bowman’s commitment to making Winnipeg more bike-friendly. The city provides $1,750 each year to maintain the 22 bikes. The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ salutes the efforts of council and the administration.
Pedal in the Peg currently has five downtown rental locations including the 311 desk at City Hall where bikes are free to rent. Rental rates vary by location.
Alt Hotel, 310 Donald Street Delta Hotels by Marriott Winnipeg, 250 St. Mary Avenue Holiday Inn & Suites Winnipeg Downtown, 360 Colony Street Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Offices, 426 Portage Avenue
We continue to look for more partners to serve as rental locations. The ultimate goal is for Pedal in the Peg to be the template for a city-wide bike rental program, and the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is committed to leading on this front.
