Urban Wallpaper, an initiative led by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, was officially unwrapped to media, members of the business community, and the public today, as part of an ongoing strategy to change public perceptions related to the downtown. Press conference attendees were treated to a formal announcement and guided tour, demonstrating vacant windows, often considered visually undesirable and in need of maintenance, that were transformed with public art.

Courtesy of new funding through the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ’s Host It Downtown program, the 5th annual Manitoba Filipino Street Festival will move downtown, bringing a projected 8,000 people with them.

An update to the Downtown Trends report reveals a staggering $1.26 billion of proposed developments in downtown, surpassing significant investments built from 2010 to 2015 ($1.12 billion). Residential units planned (1,213) nearly outdo the total number of residential units built from 2005 to 2015 (1,442). Other relevant trends observed: a 19% decrease of total crimes from 2014 to 2015 and a residential increase from 15,745 in 2013 to 16,446 in 2015.

Virtual Game Gives Kids & Kids at Heart an Opportunity to Create Ideal Downtown: Media Preview on July 26 from 4-6PM
Winnipeggers can now experience Downtown Winnipeg in a whole new way — virtually in Minecraft. A SketchUp model of Downtown Winnipeg was imported into Minecraft, giving kids (and kids at heart!) the opportunity to strategize about how the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ can help downtown go from good to great, with all of the to-scale buildings serving as a backdrop for virtual intervention.
