Downtown Winnipeg BIZ opens RE: Workspace, a free outdoor individual and co-working space downtown

An outdoor workspace with some people working individually and some people co-working.

Sept. 8, 2021, Treaty No. 1 Territory, WinnipegRE: Workspace is a new outdoor workspace open to anyone looking for a fresh, new place to hold a meeting or get some work done during the day. The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ initiative encourages workers and students to spend time downtown again and support downtown businesses while they do. The space is brightly decorated with creativity in mind and is complete with Wi-Fi and access to power. Located at 275 Broadway next to Capital Grill & Bar, it’s close to restaurants, coffee shops and other amenities.

“We wanted to create an exciting public space to encourage folks who have been working from home to spend their time downtown again,” says Kate Fenske, CEO, Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “The pandemic has changed the way people work, and as more employers are talking about flexible remote work, RE: Workspace gives employees and students an outside office option. We hope it reminds them of the benefits of working downtown and meeting with folks in person.”

While work continues on the downtown recovery strategy expected to roll out this fall, the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ encourages downtown visitation and exploration through initiatives like RE: Workspace and events like the Downtown Winnipeg Farmers’ Market and Downtown Sounds Concert Series.

“The Downtown BIZ is such a great community leader – I know whether through initiatives like this or Patio Tours they have my best interests in mind as a business owner, and I am totally on-board to help bring back and grow that vibrancy I know we can have here,” says Wayne Martin, owner & Chef, Capital Grill & Bar.

RE: Workspace is open Mon-Fri 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. weather permitting. Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Ambassadors are onsite to assist, answer questions and sanitize workstations between guests.

The space features:

  • Solo workstations
  • Collaborative workspaces for teams or meetings
  • Whiteboard and chalkboard space for collaborative brainstorming
  • Use of office supplies like markers
  • Advance booking for spaces
  • Walk-up availability
  • An easy-to-use directory for downtown shops and restaurants within walking distance
  • Free power outlets
  • Free Wi-Fi

Thank you to Capital Grill & Bar for allowing the use of some of their parking spaces for RE: Workspace.
