July 20, 2022, Treaty No. 1 territory, Winnipeg, MB – The free-to-use pop-up outdoor workstation in the parking lot beside Capital Grill & Bar on Broadway returns for its second season. RE: Workspace gives workers and students the opportunity to change up the work-from-home scenery or break up a day at the office with some productive time outdoors. Featuring free Wi-Fi, and a colourful space decorated with creativity and collaboration in mind, it’s the perfect place to enjoy the Winnipeg summer while working individually or meeting with clients or colleagues. RE: Workspace is also conveniently located – it’s close to many downtown office buildings and educational institutions, and just a 5-minute walk to over 20 restaurants and cafes.

“Last year we saw employees using the pop-up workstation as a way to connect with colleagues safely outdoors during the pandemic,” says Pam Hardman, Director of Marketing, Engagement and Communications for the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “As more employees return to their offices in downtown Winnipeg, RE: Workspace continues to serve them with new views, an outdoor escape, and the opportunity to support local downtown businesses.”

RE: Workspace includes 30 bookable seats with some casual seating available. Workspaces can be booked online in advance, but walk-ins are welcome, space permitting. The workspace has different table options that can accommodate larger and smaller meetings, as well as individual workers and students. RE: Workspace is designed to give colleagues and students another option for reconnecting and collaborating in person.

In 2021, RE: Workspace was open for five weeks in the fall and the space was used by folks from nearly 60 different organizations including students from the major universities.

RE:Workspace is set up in the parking lot next to Capital Grill & Bar, and is possible thanks to Downtown Winnipeg BIZ member, Chef Wayne Martin allowing the use of some of his parking lot space, with additional support from Union Centre.

“Downtown Winnipeg has so much potential and projects like RE:Workspace encourage people to come experience downtown and change their perceptions of our city centre,” says Wayne Martin, Chef and Owner Capital Grill & Bar. “I’m happy to support this project again this year as I love Broadway.”

Features of RE: Workspace:

  • Whiteboard and chalkboard space for collaborative brainstorming
  • Use of office supplies like markers
  • Advanced booking available
  • An easy-to-use directory for downtown shops and restaurants within walking distance
  • Portable charging stations
  • Free Wi-Fi

RE:Workspace is open 9:30AM-4:30PM Monday-Friday all summer long, weather permitting and is staffed by Downtown Winnipeg BIZ’s ambassadors, who are available to check guests in, offer supplies, answer questions, and sanitize workstations between guests.
