Local Businesses and Downtown Community Members Come Together for 14th Annual Earth Day Cleanup

On Monday, April 29 local businesses and downtown community members came together for the 14th annual Downtown Earth Day Cleanup. The annual event is part of Downtown Winnipeg BIZ’s overall efforts to clean the downtown area and is a great opportunity for the community to get together for a fun day of cleaning!

A total of 383 business workers, residents and school groups joined the Enviro-Team and staff for the Cleanup at Thunderbird House and at Millennium Library Park. Participants picked up litter in the downtown area and successfully collected 4,188 lbs of garbage.

Prizes were given out to corporate teams who took their participation to another level:

  • Most Lbs. of Litter Collected as a Team: Artis Reit
  • Best Team Name: Trash Terminators by Triovest

We would like to thank everyone who participated at our 14th Annual Earth Day Cleanup. Your efforts have contributed to helping make our downtown clean and vibrant for the spring season!

We would also like to thank Tim Hortons who provided coffee for us in the morning, Sunshine Valley who provided their Honey Buzz energy drinks, 1-800-GOT-JUNK, The Winnipeg Free Press and to Energy 106 FM for their energy and enthusiasm throughout the day.

About the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Enviro-Team

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Enviro-Team helps keep the downtown clean and looking great. Sixteen year-round staff and seven additional seasonal members pick up litter, water flowers, remove graffiti, remove posters, and clean downtown’s sidewalks every day. Starting at 6:30 in the morning, sidewalk machines sweep and wash downtown, and in the winter two snow ploughs clear major sidewalks of ice and light snow. In 2017, The Enviro-Team was able to pick 44,562 pails of garbage by hand!
