FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DOWNTOWN BIZ ‘CANADA DAY LIVING FLAG’ PHOTO SELECTED AS 2013 CANADIAN PRIDE STAMP
Downtown Winnipeg – Winnipeg’s strong sense of community pride will be forever enshrined in the hearts and minds of Canadians – as the Downtown BIZ’s Canada Day Living Flag photo was selected by Canada Post to be part of the Canadian Pride series to be issued on January 14, 2013.
The chosen photo showcases the participation of more than 3,000 Winnipeggers who stood shoulder to shoulder, adorned in red and white t-shirts and other patriotic attire, to form Canada’s largest living flag. The icing on the cake: Not only will this photo be seen by millions of people as a stamp, Winnipeggers helped defend our ‘Canada’s Largest Living Flag’ title, having beat Victoria, Langley and Calgary’s Living Flags by a landslide margin.
“With this stamp, our Living Flag photo will be seen by millions of people from all walks of life – putting our downtown on the map and showing to the world how much Winnipeggers care about their city,” said Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “Winnipeggers should be proud of this achievement and celebrate the positive growth and success our city and downtown is experiencing. This stamp is just one of the many indicators that our city is becoming more and more world-class.”
The stamp will be part of five Permanent™ domestic rate stamps that draws attention to the common — and uncommon — places the Canadian flag appears. An official launch of the stamp will be planned early next year and the stamps will be available in all post offices across Canada on January 14, 2013.
