Major functions:

This position performs semi-skilled work in general maintenance, in the outdoors of downtown Winnipeg. You must be skilled in a variety of manual trades, e.g. carpentry, painting, landscaping, and any extra talents you bring with you. The job entails frequent physical labour in the continuous cleaning of the City of Winnipeg transit shelters, in order to promote a more attractive downtown. You are expected to carry out the duties assigned to the Transit Crew as well as general maintenance with the Enviro Team.


  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required (state in resume)
  • Positive attitude with strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Physically fit and active
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds+
  • Enjoy working outdoors year round
  • Detail oriented with a good eye for a job well done
  • Experienced in outdoor general maintenance and plant care
  • Skilled in manual trades
  • Comfortable operating hand tools and equipment as needed
  • Solid work ethic, dependable, reliable     

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Report to work on time to the Maintenance Crew Supervisor at the start of each shift.
  • Wear all uniform and safety equipment as required.
  • Dress in appropriate uniform as provided at all times.
  • During non-winter / no snow months, clean designated number of bus shelters every second day.
    • Pick up loose litter in and around bus shelters using equipment provided
    • Power wash shelter floors and windows
    • Deodorize shelters
    • Report damage to Winnipeg Transit
  • During the winter / snow months, clean all downtown bus shelters every 2-3 days, including:
    • Pick up litter in and around bus shelters using equipment provided
    • Chip snow and ice away from all bus shelter doors
    • Sand / salt bus shelters, where required
    • Deodorize shelters
    • Wash windows
    • Report damage to Winnipeg Transit
  • Add and remove stickers/ posters for BIZ programming.
  • Remove posters from bus shelters and other non-approved areas.
  • Operate golf cart and watering equipment as required.
  • Maintain a valid Class Five Driver’s license.
  • Demonstrate courteous customer service to move individuals out of bus shelters.
  • Record statistics on duties performed.
  • Create detailed list of all damages to Transit bus shelters.
  • Record all maintenance/repair issues while working in the downtown and report to Supervisor.
  • Provide information and directions to downtown users.
  • Assist with Placemaking Committee street projects, as needed.
  • Assist with the set-up and take-down of events.
  • Follow all rules, regulations and policies of the Downtown BIZ.
  • Perform all duties in a responsible manner.
  • Other related duties as may be assigned.

Start date:   Immediately, Term ends December 31, 2015 (subject to extension)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., with one hour of unpaid                 breaks (Actual days and hours of work may vary depending on      scheduling and events), 35 hours per week

Rate:  $13.90 per hour
