FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INTRODUCING WINNIPEG’S NEWEST FESTIVAL: MANYFEST, COMING THIS SEPTEMBER 9 TO 11!
DOWNTOWN WINNIPEG—Last year you knew it as Lights on Broadway Five Events, One Weekend…this year it’s many events on one weekend! The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is excited to unveil Winnipeg’s newest festival name and brand: ManyFest: All together downtown, which will see an anticipated 30,000-plus people celebrating on Broadway September 9 to 11, 2011.
Varying stretches of the north side of Broadway will be closed to vehicular traffic over the weekend, which will feature a wine festival, music, running race, dancing, lights and Ciclovia. The festival for all ages celebrates community, arts, entertainment and healthy living on the streets of downtown Winnipeg beneath Broadway’s beautiful lit canopy of elm trees.
Fusion Group joined the BIZ as a partner this year to rebrand the collection of events occurring on one weekend to establish it as a signature festival for Winnipeg. Fusion developed a new logo based on the BIZ’s brand and designing the event posters.
Last September, an estimated 30,000 people enjoyed Five Events. One Weekend, with Lights on Broadway, Ciclovia, the Big Dance on Broadway, Taste of Downtown Winnipeg Wine & Cheese Festival, and the 10 & 10 Race. In 2009, Ciclovia drew crowds downtown on a Sunday when Broadway was closed to traffic for cycling, rollerblading, jogging and strolling, with community programming and activities down the street. For 2010, four more events joined Ciclovia over the span of a weekend. In 2011, ManyFest will feature eight main events under the one umbrella festival name. New this year is a giant movie in Memorial Park, expanded Kids’ Zone and larger Farmers’ and Artisan Market.
“What an amazing experience it was to walk down Broadway’s boulevard under the canopy of lit elms, with thousands of people carrying candles last September,” says Stefano Grande, Downtown Winnipeg BIZ executive director. “It was a magical weekend for downtown. I said to myself at that moment, ‘we have got to do this again!’”
The Downtown BIZ, City of Winnipeg, the Running Room and the Independent Specialty Wine Stores of Manitoba are hosting the festival along with many other partners and sponsors. Sponsors include Investors Group, S&J Construction, Portage Place, the Pony Corral, Best Western Charterhouse Hotel and Fusion Group, with more to come!
