Lunchtime learning: Teachings from Elder Ellen Cook
September 27, 2022 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ and APTN invite you to a lunchtime learning session in Air Canada Park by the Indigenous Gardens.
Tuesday, September 27
12:00PM-1:00PM
The event is BYOL (bring your own lunch).
Elder Dr. Ellen Cook, Language and Knowledge Keeper, will be talking about her work in the revitalization of the Cree language and about her advocacy for northern Indigenous communities impacted by resource extraction and hydro development. Most important to her is the sacredness of the earth and the sustainability of its resources which we have relied on for our survival and sustenance since the beginning of our existence. People need their Indigenous languages because there is a definite link between the vitality of our languages and biodiversity, the harmonious relationship that was broken between people and the land needs mending.
This event is being facilitated by Indigenous Languages of Manitoba.
