FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DOWNTOWN’S BIGGEST STREET PARTY RETURNS WITH BIGGER & BETTER EVENTS: SEPT 5-7
Downtown Winnipeg – A beloved addition to Winnipeg’s wealth of festivals, the 4th annual Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries ManyFest street party, will animate Broadway from September 5-7 with an energetic atmosphere of arts, entertainment, and delicious cuisine, to draw people into heart of the city. Since its inception, ManyFest has attracted well over 100,000 people to downtown Winnipeg for an open, outdoor showcase of talent, community, and healthy living on the streets of downtown Winnipeg, beneath Broadway’s beautiful elm trees.
“This is an important festival for downtown,” says Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “I can’t think of a better way to enjoy Broadway and its rich history than to add Winnipeg musicians, artisans, and people on the street. This is what downtown is all about – celebrating people and place.”
Bigger & Better Events
New this year is the closure of both sides of Broadway from Osborne to Edmonton Street – giving ManyFest a street party feel and look.
A regular feature is the Giant Movie in the Park that takes place on the festival’s opening night on Friday, September 5th. To pay tribute to the late Robin Williams, Jumanji will be screened to thousands of Winnipeggers.
A popular feature at last year’s ManyFest, the Food Truck Wars sponsored by SkyCity Centre is back with more than double the number of food trucks and speedier line-ups with curated ManyFest menus. Participants will get a chance to vote on their favourite bites, with prizes awarded on the last night of the festival. A full listing of participating food trucks is online at www.manyfest.ca.
With 2014 being the Year of Music, the ManyFest main stage will feature homegrown Manitoba musicians, while the Big Dance on Broadway sponsored by the Winnipeg Arts Council will showcase diverse and ethnic performances.
Every year, Broadway has been lit up with crowds of people walking the avenue with candles and light-based performances along its medians. This year on Saturday, they’ll be joined by the runners of the inaugural Electric Donkey Glow Run hosted by the Running Room and Swamp Donkey Adventure Racing. Starting at The Forks, more than 1,000 runners in glowing gear will finish their run and add their glow to Broadway.
In honour of FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ that will be hosted in Winnipeg next June, ManyFest is planning to celebrate the beautiful game of soccer on Saturday, September 6th in Memorial Park from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Come out and join Shuéme (shoo-EH-mee) the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ mascot in a pick-up game of soccer or see how you measure up to the professionals in a speed kick challenge to test how fast you can kick a ball. If you arrive around noon you will be treated to a celebrity soccer match with a number of noteworthy Winnipeggers on the roster.
Highlighting Broadway as a lively artery of downtown, ManyFest will also feature Lights on Broadway, Wine & Beer Garden featuring local breweries, Farmers’ and Artisans’ Markets presented by Portage Place Shopping Centre, Ciclovia, MiniFest Kids’ Zone, Zumbathon and the Winnipeg 10 & 10 Race presented by Investors Group – amongst an eclectic and multicultural backdrop of local talent, musicians, artists, and buskers.
Getting to the festival
ManyFest encourages participants to come in by foot, bicycle, transit, rollerblades, and more – making use of the many active transportation routes into and around the downtown. On Sunday, during Ciclovia, participants can enjoy a car-free route that stretches as far as Assiniboine Park to the Forks.
There will also be on site a free Bike Valet – so anyone riding to Broadway on their bike can store their bike or stroller while they leisurely enjoy the festival. Location: In Memorial Park on Broadway at Osborne Street. Attendees are also invited to bring their water bottle for free water fill-ups on the street.
