Downtown Photo Exhibit Launches With More Than 4,000 Community Photos Compiled: Oct. 7

Downtown Winnipeg – Get behind the lens of 15 photographers, both novice and experienced, at the inaugural #finditdowntown photo exhibit at Portage Place Shopping Centre, as their exclusively curated photos and 4,000 others submitted by the community, will be shared:

  • What: #finditdowntown Photo Exhibit
  • Where: Portage Place Shopping Centre (393 Portage Ave., Unit 120, first floor beside the water fountain)
  • When: October 7, 2015 (5 p.m. to 9 p.m.), exhibit runs Oct. 8-30
  • Why: To celebrate Winnipeggers who have submitted their favourite experiences downtown

“We’re thrilled that so many Winnipeggers have come downtown and shared their experiences through social media,” says Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “With our marketing campaign this year, we have invited Winnipeggers to take photos of their favourite experiences downtown – and from looking at what’s been submitted online, the compelling moments that people took part in are plenty! Show us yours by using #finditdowntown!”

Grande adds: “Downtown is Winnipeg’s premier entertainment destination; It is where history meets the present and where hundreds of thousands of people gather to experience what our city has to offer. Whether it is our thriving arts and theatre scene, a concert or sporting event, or an evening submersed in our nightlife, visitors are always spending money at local businesses, enjoying a positive downtown experience that will keep them coming back.”

  • To promote and showcase the compelling and unique experiences downtown

2015 Find It Downtown Marketing Achievements

  • Average weekly social media impressions: 681,039 (highest – 1,604,033)
  • Average weekly posts: 256 (highest – 611)
  • Sleigh ride tour of downtown’s winter experiences and restaurant hotspots
  • Advertisements placed: 25 transit boards, 15 billboards, and 10 downtown digital boards
  • Advertisements in more than 66,500 brochures and posters
  • 4,000 photos submitted by the community on Instagram
  • Partnerships formed with Tourism Winnipeg, Chair Your Idea, Winnipeg Pass, FLASH Photography Festival, Art & Soul, The Hub, and CBC Music 4 Lunch, and 40 downtown businesses

A partnership between Downtown Winnipeg BIZ and Tourism Winnipeg was also created to drive more visits to downtown restaurants and retail. As part of the BIZ’s marketing campaign – #finditdowntown – all convention-goers coming to the city will receive exclusive access to discounts and unique experiences downtown with a special lanyard in 2015. 6,000 Winnipeggers will also receive custom keychains that will grant them year-round access to these promotions. About the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ

Established in 1989 by the City of Winnipeg, the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is the oldest of Winnipeg’s 16 business improvement zones.
