In the name of revitalization, the Downtown Winnipeg Business Improvement Zone (BIZ) and its partners have a strategy to support existing retailers and attract new ones to the city’s downtown.
The goal is to create a vibrant shopping district to attract people downtown.
The Downtown Retail Retention and Recruitment Strategy is based on New York-based MJB Consulting’s analysis of Winnipeg’s retail market.
A report released in 2009 outlined a plan for the Exchange District, Portage Avenue and Graham Avenue.
The report suggests specific examples and the types of retailers, from large stores to boutiques, who may be open to putting a store in downtown Winnipeg.
Downtown BIZ and its partners — CentreVenture Development Corp., city of Winnipeg, The Forks North Portage Development Corp. and Exchange District BIZ — are trying to lure those types of retailers.
