DOWNTOWN BLOSSOMS INTO SUMMER:
170 FLOWER BASKETS TO BE INSTALLED JUNE 1
Downtown Winnipeg –The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ will be installing 102 giant flower baskets along Portage Avenue, 46 medium flower baskets on other downtown streets, and 22 vault baskets around bases of trees – in addition to thousands of planted flowers in baskets and sidewalk planters on Main Street, Graham Avenue, Donald Street, Chinatown, Broadway, and other areas in the heart of our city – to welcome Winnipeggers and tourists to our downtown this summer.
“We all know Winnipeg’s summers are short, and we want to make the most of our outdoor downtown spaces,” says Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ.
“These flower baskets are an ongoing priority for us to help make our downtown a vibrant and exciting place to be and reflect its dynamism and inviting quality. We want people to feel welcome here at the heart of our city!”
The Downtown BIZ recognizes the importance of creating unique spaces in our downtown that engages office workers, students and tourists; and image and cleanliness remains a top priority in doing so. The flower baskets aim to enhance the streetscape and breathe new life and interest in our city centre, providing a warm welcome for those visiting our downtown. Over 1,000 flower baskets have been installed in the downtown over the last ten years.
Photo opportunity: Flower basket installations will begin at Portage Avenue near the University of Winnipeg at approximately 9:00 AM.
