A&W Restaurants is a fast-food chain with a rich history dating back to 1956 in Canada, originally founded as a subsidiary of the U.S.-based A&W Restaurants chain. The Canadian operations were sold to Unilever in 1972, but were later taken over by a Canadian management group in 1995. As of 2022, A&W was Canada's second-largest fast-food hamburger chain, with over 1,000 locations. The chain is known for its signature menu items, including A&W Root Beer™ and The Burger Family® combos, and has a strong presence in Canadian malls and shopping centers.
