BIZ Safety is Mobile

Downtown Winnipeg — After a night-out downtown at a sold-out Jets’ game, restaurant, bar or nightclub, Winnipeggers will be happy to see extra mobile Watch Ambassadors zooming in and around the downtown, in 2 newly sponsored vehicles, as part of an innovative partnership between Impark and the Downtown BIZ.

This new partnership will allow our existing overnight Watch 6pm – 6am access to mobile patrol cars, provided by Impark. This mobile fleet will focus on providing greater public visibility for our current Watch program comprised of 15-20 Watch ambassadors / Outreach who provide safewalks, public information and help reduce property and car vandalism, among other downtown ambassadorial duties.

“The BIZ and Impark partnership is an example of the business community working together to improve downtown safety and commitment to providing a safe, positive experience for those visiting their urban city centre,” said Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the BIZ. “The BIZ mobile patrol will be an extra set of eyes and ears, allowing us to communicate more effectively with the WPS, cadets and will give people improved access to Watch Safewalks and ambassadorial services.”

The BIZ’s goal is to provide a positive and welcoming experience to the increasing number of people coming to and from the downtown in the late evening and early morning, for work, events, retail, and hospitality. With this partnership, you can expect a greater presence of our Watch, which will provide an extra sense of safety.

And as more and more visitors are returning downtown after hours, the BIZ is demonstrating the business community’s leadership in increasing its services in areas of demand, with this partnership with Impark, even while we continue to advocate for more police resources in our downtown.
