“Be the Hand” on the MTS TV Fireplace

December 6, 2012

Downtown Winnipeg — Downtown shoppers have yet another reason to get fired up this holiday season – as they will get a unique opportunity to “be the hand” tending the Yule log on the MTS TV Fireplace. To win, the public will have to find 1 of 5 fireplaces in storefronts downtown and enter the codeword they see online at downtownpeggy.com. For an extra chance to win, participants are encouraged to snap a photo of themselves in front of the fireplaces they find, and share with Downtown Peggy on Twitter or Facebook.

This holiday contest will officially launch on Monday, December 10th, at 10:30 AM at Portage Place Mall (2nd floor skywalk connecting Portage Place & The Bay). Local media celebrities Ace Burpee (103.1 Virgin Radio), Jenna Khan & Drew Kozub (Breakfast TV), and Elisha Dacey (Metro), will help kick off our contest by dressing up their hands in creative ways and posing in front of our Yule log – for a chance to win $100 in support of his or her charity of choice. Photos of each media rep will be posted on the BIZ’s Facebook page, and the public will get a chance to vote for their favourite. Media are invited to attend and to participate.

“Until now, the MTS TV Fireplace has been ‘un-tended’,” said Roslyn Dally, MTS Community Investment Manager. “We’re excited to be part of this contest and help bring people downtown during the festive season. The winner will be the official MTS TV Fireplace stoker and will receive a fabulous prize package from MTS.”

“The BIZ’s Yule log contest is part of a whole smorgasbord of festive events and initiatives taking place downtown during the holidays,” said Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown BIZ. “From horse-drawn sleigh rides, roaming carolers, and a plethora of downtown boutiques and restaurant options – downtown Winnipeg presents the perfect atmosphere for a unique shopping experience during the holidays.”

To add to the list of reasons to shop downtown – the BIZ’s Downtown Watch ambassadors will be handing out gift cards to the public throughout the holidays, and our parking “sugar plum fairies” will blitz throughout downtown, paying parking fees for some lucky visitors.
