A Taste of Downtown Winnipeg

Downtown Winnipeg – From cycling to wine tastings to an exploration of rooftop gardens and the river trail leading to the historical site of The Forks, along with the magnificent Waterfront – Winnipeggers will discover some of the hidden gems that make downtown Winnipeg such a unique place to visit, with the launch of several new downtown tours hosted by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ.

“Designed to market the urban landscape with its abundance of restaurants, retail, parks and rich history, these tours will invite hundreds of Winnipeggers to delve deeper into what downtown Winnipeg has to offer,” said Stefano Grande, executive director of the Downtown BIZ. “We hope these tours will provide participants with fresh ideas for things to do and see all year-round!”

A Moveable Feast – Take in the gorgeous view of some of downtown’s most iconic buildings, architecture, and places on bike, while enjoying great eats from downtown restaurants, featuring Thom Bargen, The Old Spaghetti Factory, Promenade Café, Don Pedro’s, Cake-ology, East India Company Pub & Eatery, and Rudy’s Eat and Drink. June 19 at 5pm.

Wicked Winnipeg – Delve into Winnipeg’s wicked past with a tour of the history of crime. From the naughty to the notorious, this walking tour will take you through the downtown haunts of criminals of the past. July 6 at 2pm.

Parks and Rec – See the city from a whole new angle with a tour of downtown’s rooftop gardens, featuring the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Manitoba Hydro, Red River College’s Roblin Centre, Patterson Global Foods, and the Millennium Library Park. July 23 at 12pm.

Patio Crawl – Now that summer is here, one patio is never enough. Grab your friends, soak up the sun and sip your favourite drinks at some of downtown’s biggest patios, featuring Tavern United, Rudy’s Eat and Drink, Muddy Waters, and Clay Oven at Shaw Park for a Goldeyes game! July 26 at 5pm.

Winnipeg Wine – Explore the wine lists of some of Winnipeg’s top downtown restaurants and sample delectable food pairings with this guided tour. Stroll to top fine dining restaurants including the Velvet Glove, Lobby on York, and the Palm Room for flights of wine, and finish your night with a stay in the historic Hotel Fort Garry. August 9 at 6:30pm.

Birds Hill, Biking, and Beer – Hit the city’s newest bike routes with the Executive Director of the Downtown BIZ and cycle from downtown to Birds Hill Park and back for a cold beer on a downtown patio! Finish every ride and get a free beer and souvenir t-shirt on the 29th! Every Thursday in August at 4pm.

Commerce Design Winnipeg – Take a self-guided tour of businesses that have been recognized for the exceptional quality of the interior and exterior of their businesses through the Commerce Design Winnipeg contest, organized by StorefrontMB, The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown BIZ. Choose your favourite merchant for a chance to win a spa getaway.
