ESTIMATED 50,000 PEOPLE GATHER DOWNTOWN FOR CITY’S LARGEST STREET FESTIVAL: SEPT 6-8
Downtown Winnipeg – An estimated 50,000 people had plenty of reasons to enjoy downtown, as ManyFest livened Broadway, from Osborne Street to Main Street, with a celebration of community, arts, entertainment, and healthy living this past weekend from September 6 to 8.
A popular festival feature was the inaugural Downtown Food Truck Wars located on Memorial Boulevard and Broadway. Thousands of Winnipeggers sampled and savoured delicious culinary treats from On a Roll Sandwich Truck, Stuff It, Tot Wheels, Lovey’s BBQ, BBK, Vilai’s Spice Box, Habanero Sombrero, Pimp My Rice, Healthy Eats, The Poutine King, and Barbie & Gabi’s Specialteez. Judged by Robin Summerfield (Peg City Grub), Sachit Mehra (East India Company Pub & Eatery), and Ben Benton (Savour Winnipeg), winners of the Judges Choice Awards were:
? Most Original – On a Roll Sandwich Truck for their Morden Special
? Best Presentation – Vilai’s Spice Box for their Ninja Burger
? Best Bang for Your Buck – Pimp My Rice for their Adobo Chicken Wing
But who reigned food truck supreme? After hundreds of votes, Stuff It Food took home the People’s Choice Award.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that downtown was the place to be this past weekend,” said Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown BIZ. “Thousands of Winnipeggers helped create an exciting energy and vibe in the heart of our city. Now that people have seen how amazing their downtown is, I encourage Winnipeggers to check out downtown all year-round!”
In its third year, Manyfest is a festival that showcases Broadway as a lively artery of the downtown, and features a Giant Movie in the Park, Lights on Broadway, Wine and Beer Festival, Big Dance on Broadway, Farmers’ and Artisans’ Markets, Ciclovia, MiniFest Kids’ Zone, Mini Olympics with Winnipeg Olympian Janine Hanson, and the Winnipeg 10 & 10 presented by Investors Group – amongst an eclectic and multicultural backdrop of live, local talent, musicians, artists, and buskers.
This year’s Giant Movie in the Park is Pixar’s Up, a 3D comedy-adventure film perfect for all ages! Bring out a lawn chair or blanket, enjoy snacks galore at our concession stand, and snuggle up with your loved ones at Memorial Park, one of downtown’s most gleaming green spaces.
