Local Businesses and Downtown Community Members Come Together for 13th Annual Earth Day Clean Up

Winnipeg, Manitoba – On Monday, April 23rd local businesses and downtown community members came together for the 13th annual Downtown Earth Day Clean-up. The annual event which is part of the BIZ’s overall efforts to clean the downtown area marked a new milestone and celebrated over 4,000 amazing volunteers in the past thirteen years.

A total of 334 business workers, residents and school groups joined the BIZ’s Enviro-Team and staff for the Clean-up at Thunderbird House and at Millennium Library Park. Participants picked up litter in the downtown area and successfully collected over 1,772 lbs. of garbage in the afternoon alone!

Prizes were given out to corporate teams who took their participation to another level:

  • Most Lbs. of Litter Collected as a Team: Credit Union Central of Manitoba
  • Best Team Name: Garbage Hatch Kids (Hatch Ltd.)
  • Best Team Outfit: Sparrow Hotels

“The Downtown Earth Day Cleanup gives us an opportunity to celebrate the incredible support of the community and our Enviro-Team for their contribution to keeping our downtown clean,” says Stefano Grande, CEO of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “Over the past several years, we’ve seen how powerful this event is for connecting the community and working towards a shared goal which is a vibrant and clean downtown.”
