MTS and Downtown BIZ are pleased to announce the winner of a unique contest where downtown visitors had a chance to “be the hand” tending the Yule log on the MTS TV Fireplace. To win, the public had to find 1 of 5 fireplaces in storefronts located downtown. For extra chances to win, participants were encouraged to snap a photo of themselves in front of the fireplaces they found, and share on social media.
A year ago, we welcomed the Winnipeg Jets back home – with game days that attracted more than 15,000 fans who packed sidewalks, restaurants, bars and evening entertainment venues. STUDENTS from around the world could soon be calling the former Downtowner Motor Hotel their new home away from home.
The owners of Winnipeg’s India Palace Restaurant — Ashwani and Suroj Nagpal — have purchased the former Ellice Avenue hotel-turned-hostel from the North Portage Development Corporation for about $2 million, and are spending more than a million dollars to convert it into a residence for foreign and out-of-town students.
Bernie Cheater, owner of the former 4Play Sports Bar, and the bar’s CEO Oreanna Cheater have big changes planned for the downtown bar which is reopening this spring as Lux Supper Club
