The Gloves Are Off

Can Winnipeg Beat Langley, BC to form Canada’s Largest Living Flag?

Downtown Winnipeg – Winnipeggers will show Canada how it’s done as 5,000 Winnipeggers are expected to form Canada’s largest living flag on July 1st. With Calgary, Victoria and Langley all organizing similar events, we’re letting them know that we’re the city to beat!

Langley, BC thinks they can bring out 25,000 people to form their flag. With about 700,000 residents in Winnipeg, let’s show Langley we mean business and bring out a critical mass of 5,000 people to form ours. This is but one reason for Winnipeggers to step up to the plate.

“To make the stakes even higher, if Winnipeg delivers and brings out a bigger crowd than last year, this photo could be seen by over 10 million people – showing the world what Winnipeg is truly made of,” said Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “If Winnipeg’s photo hits the mark, a special announcement will be made following the Living Flag event, capturing Winnipeggers’ love for their city and country!”

Winnipeg formed Canada’s biggest-ever living flag in 2011, beating Victoria, BC’s 2010 Living Flag record of 2100 people, with over 3,400 Winnipeggers who participated and showed their national pride. Can Winnipeg do it again? With a goal of 5000 participants, the Downtown BIZ is once again challenging Winnipeggers to join together to form a living flag, wearing red and white t-shirts:
