Downtown BIZ Challenges 5,000 Winnipeggers to Assemble into Winnipeg’s 2nd Annual Canada Day Living Flag
Downtown Winnipeg – Over 3,400 people showed their national pride on Canada Day in 2011 by standing shoulder to shoulder to form Canada’s biggest-ever Living Flag in front of the Manitoba Legislative Building, smashing Victoria, BC’s 2010 Living Flag record of 2100 people.
Can Winnipeg do it again? With a goal of 5000 participants, the Downtown BIZ is once again challenging Winnipeggers to join together to form a living flag, wearing red and white t-shirts. With other cities beginning to join in on this challenge, our task of setting the record for Canada’s largest living flag won’t be easy. Join us on July 1st, 2012 at the Legislative Grounds to show Canada that Winnipeg’s the city to beat:
What: Canada Day Living Flag Photo-op
Where: Manitoba Legislative Grounds (in front of Legislative Building)
When: Sunday, July 1st from 9:30-12:00pm
9:30am – 11am: T-shirt distribution (first come, first serve) and entertainment
11:15am – 12pm: Form the flag and pose for the photo
Host: Hot 103’s Lloyd the Intern
“Last year’s Living Flag event really captured the imagination of Winnipeggers and when everyone started singing O’Canada together, I could not help but get shivers down my spine. It was truly amazing to see such community pride,” said Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown BIZ. “Winnipeggers love their city and what better way to show that then by coming out and forming Canada’s largest living flag this year?”
While the BIZ has ordered 4,000 t-shirts, we encourage anyone who participates to show their patriotism by wearing red and white and the BIZ will do its best to accommodate everyone in the flag. Event-goers will be entertained by such local artists and musicians like Enjoy Your Pumas, Reunion and the Norman Chief Memorial Dancers. Pins, paper flags and prizes will also be given out to those in attendance.
Prizes: Tim Hortons mountain bike, 2 sets of NHL game tickets (pre-register your attendance before June 25th for a chance to win 1st set of tickets, 2nd set of tickets raffled at the event).
Walk-ups are welcome but people can also sign up to be part of the Living Flag by clicking here:
