2016 Canada Day Living Flag
As the numbers roll in from competing cities across Canada, the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is confident Winnipeg will once again hold its title as the Largest Canada Day Living Flag in the country.
Today over 3,158 people gathered at Shaw Park decked in red and white to form the flag of our nation, engaging some friendly competition against Victoria, Calgary, Regina, Brandon, Toronto, and Ottawa. Proud and patriotic Winnipeggers at the event were joined by the Honourable MaryAnn Mihychuk, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour; the Honourable Rochelle Squires, Minister of Sport, Culture, and Heritage; and his Worship Brian Bowman, Mayor of Winnipeg.
Since the inaugural event in 2011, over 18,000 Winnipeggers have assembled downtown dressed in red and white patriotic attire, to create a living Canadian flag. Attracting young and old, Canadians of every heritage, the event’s location at the ballpark offers a great kick-off to Canada Day festivities.
