Vivienne Young is no stranger to the jewellery business. In fact, she’s got more than 42 years of experience with all things platinum and gold and she takes her business seriously.

First opened in 1981 in the Richardson Concourse, Youngs has been a staple amongst the business tower crowd for decades. That’s due in no small part to Vivienne’s expertise, as well as the help she receives from her husband Patrick—the man who knows everything about watches.

The store specializes in fine jewellery that makes a statement. Estate pieces, high-end watches, gold, diamonds and Vivienne’s favourite—coloured stones.

“I’m known for my coloured stones,” says Vivienne, showing off a stunning ring set with a bright pink stone surrounded by sparking diamonds. “Each one is unique and different. They’re really fascinating to work with.”

Along with gorgeous jewellery, the store also specializes in appraisals, repairs and custom design. “You can bring a pile of your old rings to me, and I can visualize something and tell you what to do with them,” says Vivienne. “That’s one of my specialties.”

The store also stocks top-of-the line pens (some worth as much as $6,000) and timepieces. The shop is the exclusive carrier in Winnipeg of Nomos, a line of exquisite handmade watches from Germany.

Vivienne and Patrick pride themselves on integrity, honesty and fairness in their business, always going out of their way to satisfy their customers. They say this is their secret to seeing them come back.

Vivienne says “it’s a romantic” business to be in and over the years they’ve built an extremely loyal following.

Currently, Youngs is located across from CIBC in the Lombard concourse during renovations of the area. They expect to be back in their former, and newly expanded, location in a few months.
