FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FAN FAVOURITE FLICKS UNDER THE STARS IN DOWNTOWN WINNIPEG
Downtown Winnipeg – 6 film classics will be screened for free on a giant 40-foot screen every Tuesday in August, giving Winnipeggers another opportunity to take in the summertime heat. Big hair, leg warmers, and all things punk: downtown Winnipeg is set to get a blast from the past as Memorial Park becomes an outdoor movie theatre – conjuring feelings of nostalgia with films from the 80s:
August 6: Ghostbusters
August 13: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
August 20: Planes, Trains and Automobiles & The Great Outdoors
August 27: Pretty in Pink & The Breakfast Club
In case of rain, the film will be screened on the following Wednesday.
“Memorial Park, one of downtown’s most cherished green spaces, is ready for its close-up,” said Stefano Grande, executive director of the Downtown BIZ. “What better way to spend an evening downtown than with friends and family on a blanket watching a great film and enjoying live entertainment? And with the beautiful backdrop of the Legislative Building and the Golden Boy, it doesn’t get any better than that.”
Pre-movie activities will include costume and dance contests, live entertainment, and more. Activities start at 7:00pm, followed by each movie screening before dusk. Concessions will be set up to provide something for people to munch on during the shows.
