Talk: Renatus’ Kayak

Join us for a talk followed by a Q+A with author/researcher Rozanne Enerson Junker and Fred Ford, President of the Manitoba Inuit Association

Renatus’ Kayak: A Labrador Inuk, an American G.I. and a Secret World War II Weather Station

Free entry* • Talk begins at 3pm • Book-signing at 4pm

Renatus’ Kayak begins as Woody Belsheim attempts to reconnect with the family of Renatus Tuglavina, who had “kept him sane” when he was one of seven G.I.s serving in the secret American weather station in Hebron, Labrador, during WWII. It soon becomes a true detective story that delves into military history, Inuit culture, wartime politics and a star-crossed love. Renatus emerges as an Inuk leader whose amazing life had been lost to history until the model sealskin kayak he made and gave to Woody led Junker on a journey to its discovery.
