BIZ Job Posting: Project Assistant, Placemaking & Transportation

 
 

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual to join our team to coordinate a variety of projects promoting vibrant, healthy and holistic streetscapes and environments in the downtown. The position involves a mix of office work, site visits and meeting with downtown business people.

Title: Project Assistant – Placemaking & Transportation

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Manager, Placemaking, & Transportation as well as the Placemaking and Transportation Committees, the Project Assistant will be responsible for undertaking projects promoting vibrant, healthy and holistic streetscapes and environments in the downtown.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Transportation

  • With the direction and approval of the transportation committee, develop and move forward strategic goals and objectives.
  • Assist with the implementation of all transportation projects and programs as needed and as directed by the Manager, Placemaking & Transportation. Data entry / maintenance (survey results, competition entries, etc) and mapping.
  • Communicate with suppliers in varying projects as needed to obtain quotes and order materials, as needed.
  • Conduct research for various transportation initiatives, programs and proposals.
  • Develop and maintain data relevant to transportation as needed.
  • Produce progress reports on transportation projects as required.
  • Establish and maintain working partnerships with downtown stakeholders as to transportation projects and programs.
  • Assist with PR related to transportation projects as needed.
  • Coordinate transportation related events as needed.
  • Other transportation related duties as may be assigned from the Manager, Placemaking & Transportation.
  • Update timelines for transportation department.

Placemaking

  • With the direction and approval of the placemaking committee, develop and move forward strategic goals and objectives.
  • Assist with the implementation of all placemaking projects and programs as needed and as directed by the Manager, Placemaking & Transportation.
  • Work with and communicate to downtown businesses to gain their participation in Downtown BIZ projects, specifically bistro sets; bike racks; brochures; tree vault baskets; cigarette butt receptacles and planters.
  • Assist the Manager, Placemaking & Transportation with Streetscape Team initiatives as requested.
  • Communicate with suppliers in varying projects as needed to obtain quotes and order materials, as needed.
  • Conduct research for various placemaking initiatives, programs and proposals.
  • Develop and maintain data relevant to placemaking as needed.
  • Produce progress reports on placemaking projects as required.
  • Assist with PR related to placemaking projects as needed.
  • Coordinate placemaking related events as needed.
  • Other placemaking related duties as may be assigned from the Manager, Placemaking, & Transportation.

Other:

  • Assist with the implementation of the North Main streetscaping initiatives.
  • Assist with the Walk of Fame project.
  • Design and select materials for the implementation of decorative displays for various programs.
  • Assist with the implementation of Ciclovia & Manyfest as needed.
  • Attend related meetings, events and functions as directed by the Manager, Placemaking & Transportation to promote the downtown and fulfill the BIZ mandate.

 Qualifications Required:

  • A positive, outgoing attitude
  • Degree in Environmental Design, Landscape Architecture, City Planning or related design education
  • Related project experience
  • Computer proficiency primarily related to: Adobe Suites and Vector Works/Auto CAD as well as social media and Microsoft Office
  • Basic photography acumen
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attentive to visual details
  • Confident oral communicator with strong writing capabilities
  • Professional, self-assured demeanor, representing the Downtown BIZ
  • Proven responsible self-starter and team player
  • Drivers License considered an asset


Hours
: Monday to Friday, 8:30pm – 4:30pm.

Start Date: March 6, 2017, 1 year term with possibility of extension

Rate: $16 per hour
