Mayor Bowman & Downtown BIZ Staff Announce Winnipeg as Site for International Conference in 2017

Twenty years ago, more than 700 delegates came to Winnipeg for the annual International Downtown Association (IDA) conference. On September 9 at 3 p.m. in Atlanta, Georgia, the site for this year’s conference, Mayor Brian Bowman will join representatives from the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, Exchange District BIZ, and West End BIZ to officially announce Winnipeg as the chosen city for IDA’s 2017 conference.

Downtown Winnipeg BIZ ‘Unwraps’ New Initiative To Beautify Vacant Windows & Construction Sites

Urban Wallpaper, an initiative led by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, was officially unwrapped to media, members of the business community, and the public today, as part of an ongoing strategy to change public perceptions related to the downtown. Press conference attendees were treated to a formal announcement and guided tour, demonstrating vacant windows, often considered visually undesirable and in need of maintenance, that were transformed with public art.

Downtown Trend Confirm Positive Growth for Downtown

An update to the Downtown Trends report reveals a staggering $1.26 billion of proposed developments in downtown, surpassing significant investments built from 2010 to 2015 ($1.12 billion). Residential units planned (1,213) nearly outdo the total number of residential units built from 2005 to 2015 (1,442). Other relevant trends observed: a 19% decrease of total crimes from 2014 to 2015 and a residential increase from 15,745 in 2013 to 16,446 in 2015.
