THREE MORE DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES JOIN GROWING LIST OF EXCEPTIONALLY WELL DESIGNED BUSINESSES, AS PART OF COMMERCE DESIGN WINNIPEG COMPETITION
Downtown Winnipeg —An urban reception celebrated Winnipeg’s best designed businesses as the winners of the 5th annual Commerce Design Winnipeg contest. The event, hosted by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ and StorefrontMB treated attendees to delicious cuisine and conversation about Winnipeg’s emerging design culture.
“Three of the seven winning businesses from this year’s Commerce Design Winnipeg contest are located downtown,” said Stefano Grande, CEO of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is thrilled to continue its partnership with Commerce Design Winnipeg as it promotes the importance of attractive storefronts and why they are essential elements for a vital city and a vibrant downtown. When businesses keep in mind the importance of well-designed spaces, both patrons and our city win.”
2017 Commerce Design Winnipeg Winners – Downtown Businesses
The Forks Market Food Hall Refresh (130-123 Main Street)

A hard-to-miss destination within The Forks that appeals to many. This newly refined space is versatile, bright and inviting – contributing to their vision of creating a meeting place. Historic elements are maintained and tied together with new black detailing and signage to create a modern look.
La Roca (155 Smith Street)

La Roca is an intriguing and bold space with great street appeal. The combination of wood, lighting and a strong branding presence, presents an elegant dining space. The well thought out design creates a sophisticated atmosphere that enhances the overall dining experience.
Thom Bargen (250 Kennedy Street)

Architect: Sputnik Architecture
The simple, yet effective design of this space revitalizes the streetscape. The use of plants in combination with wood and white features creates a warmth and comfort. The elegance of the front counter is highlighted with brass detailing and marble.

Every year it will honour merchants who have called upon qualified design professionals to help them design or renovate their business premises. First started in Montreal, Commerce Design competitions now run in cities across the world including Luxembourg, Marseilles, and New York. Businesses have reported improved visibility in their neighbourhood, an enhanced sense of pride on the part of their employees, and new customers. The designers of the businesses also enjoy greater visibility.
